Decolonising Peace Education in Africa

Policy Briefs

The Policy briefs share insights from the Decolonising Education for Peace in Africa (DEPA) project, a multi‑country initiative that works with educators, researchers, communities, and policymakers to rethink how peace is taught and practiced across the continent. Grounded in African knowledges, lived experiences, and arts‑based research, these briefs translate DEPA’s findings into practical guidance for strengthening peace education, addressing structural inequalities, and supporting locally led approaches to conflict transformation.

Each brief highlights evidence from DEPA’s work in diverse African contexts and offers recommendations for shaping more inclusive, context‑specific, and decolonial education policies.
