Decolonising Peace Education in Africa

Decolonising Education for Peace in Africa

Educational Materials

Each project has produced educational materials that are context-specific and locally-atuned.

The Creative Economy in Southern Africa project, inspired by its sister initiative, Decolonising Education for Peace in Africa (DEPA), built this course upon research conducted across 16 projects in 14 African countries. A growing need is being responded to: support is being provided to creatives and educators in centring Africa within their creative practices, while sustainable, resilient businesses are being developed.

Across two parts and six units, guidance is provided on shaping creativity into a business, discovering markets, and building collaborative communities. Challenges are navigated, and sustainability is embedded into the work. Practical activities—videos, reflective points, and case studies—are engaged with, whether work is being done in a studio, classroom, or community space.

By the end of this short course, students will have a solid understanding of the creative economy, a clear sense of how to earn income from niche markets, and the confidence to draw on their heritage as a powerful foundation for meaningful, impactful work.
